NEWSAURUS!

Today marks the start of filming on Guillermo Del Toro’s kaiju epic “Pacific Rim”. When aliens attack, giant robots piloted by humans are Earth’s only hope!

Also of note, is New Line Cinema’s announcement that kaiju-inspired arcade game Rampage, is to be made into a film. I’ll believe it when I see it.

NEWSAURUS
Upcoming Godzilla reboot director Gareth Edwards was today featured on BBC Radio 4’s “The Museum of Curiosity”, a comedy panel show discussing science and knowledge.
While he spoke much about his low-budget smash hit Monsters, he spoke briefly of his new movie. He obviously could not go into much detail, he did seem to confirm some rather intriguing details.

GARETH: “I dunno if I’m allowed to say this at the moment, but there’s a certain film I’m involved with at the moment where something comes out of the ocean, destroys Japan, and leaves radiation behind.”
HOST: “Is this Godzilla?”
GARETH: “Mmm.”

Whether or not the final film is at all set in  Japan it does bring up some interesting ideas. Could the new film play into the recent disaster in Japan and radiation leak (in much the same way that the original was a metaphor for the Hiroshima bombing)?
Later on, Edwards mocked Transformers 2 and seemed to champion story over anything else. He spoke very intelligently about the history of story telling. It made me realise our beloved Big G is in very, very, VERY safe hands.
British readers can view the show here http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00k3wvk but unfortunately, it won’t be available to overseas viewers.
